Chicago Magazine highlights Des Plaines as a “where to buy now” spot in the suburbs, thanks in part to the library. According to the article in this month’s issue, you'll find good real estate deals here, but also a desirable quality of life—schools, restaurants, and, yes, the library.
This northwestern suburb boasts an excellent public library… Dennis Rodkin, Chicago MagazineSome people only equate the value of a library with the things it owns. Sure, you can count up the number of items you use, programs you attend, and figure out how valuable the library is to you (go here to try it). But what if you don’t leave the library with bags of items every week? Is the library still valuable to you?
The “where to buy now” list shows something important. Sometimes it’s the intangible things that make a library valuable in a community. Want good property values and a good quality of life? Invest in your library! While School District taxes can account for as much as 40% of your annual property tax bill, the amount paid to the library is just 4%. We think that’s a pretty good deal.
If you’re interested in reading the article, you can subscribe to Chicago Magazine through our Zinio digital magazine service, or come read it in the library. We’ll be here for you either way.
